What patients should expect when visiting South Portland Surgical Center - Oregon's state of the art surgical facility.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION PRIOR TO THE DAY OF YOUR SURGERY TO HELP ENSURE THAT YOUR VISIT GOES SMOOTHLY

In Preparation For Surgery

  1. PLEASE DO NOT eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery. This includes any water, any other fluids, food, gum, mints, chewing tobacco, etc. If your surgery is after 2pm, you may have a light snack early in the morning of toast and a clear liquid. No milk products. You must have an 8 hour period of nothing to eat or drink prior to your check in time. This is for your safety. Failure to follow these instructions could result in the cancellation of your surgery.
  2. YOU MUST have a responsible adult drive you home and stay with you following your surgery. For safety purposes, we can not allow you to take a taxi cab or any other public transportation home unless accompanied by a responsible adult.
  3. Please continue to take any blood pressure or heart medication with a sip of water the morning of your procedure. (except Losartan or Diovan)
  4. Please bring a list of current medications with you that includes any vitamins, herbals and over the counter medications. Please include dosages, the reason you take the medication, and when you took your last dose.
  5. You should receive a phone call from one of our nurses approximately 24-48 hours prior to your surgery to discuss your health status, current medications, allergies, and other pre-op information. If you do not receive a call from a nurse, please call 503-218-1105.
  6. Your surgeon will likely write a prescription for pain medication that you will be using at home. South Portland Surgical Center can not fill your prescription. You will need to be prepared to purchase your pain medication at your pharmacy of choice. If your surgeon gives you a prescription in his office prior to the day of your scheduled surgery, please get it filled ahead of time so you have the pain medication ready once you return home from the surgery.
  7. If you wear contact lenses, please bring the lens case with you or wear your glasses the day of your surgery.
  8. Please be sure to bring your photo ID and insurance card with you. Minors must have a parent or legal guardian to sign the consent prior to surgery. If you have medical power of attorney or guardianship papers signed by the court, you must bring them with you.
  9. Please leave all valuables at home. All jewelry must be removed, including ALL body piercings.
  10. Please arrive one hour and 15 minutes prior to your scheduled surgery, or as directed by your pre-op nurse.
  11. If you develop a cold or persistent cough, fever, or any other health related problems, or need to cancel your surgery for any reason, please notify your surgeon or call South Portland Surgical Center.
